All you ever need to know about La Gloria Cubana Brand Cigars

The La Gloria Cubana cigars are among the oldest Cuban cigars. The Sociedad Cabanas y Castro created the brand in 1885 and sold it twenty years later, in 1905 to Jose F. Rocha. Rocha moved the production of the brand to his Havana factory. After the death of Rocha in 1954, the La Gloria Cubana brand was purchased by the Cifuentes family, who also purchased the Bolivar brand. Manufacturing of the cigars was transferred to the Paragas Factory, where the cigars are still produced to this day. The brand became a very popular export. Production of the La Gloria Cubana cigars stopped for a few years ofter the Cuban Revolution, and then resumed once again around 1965. Production quantities are lower than other brands, however the brand remains very popular with cigar aficionados, the Medaille d’Or No. 2 is a particular favorite vitola. • Medaille d’Or No. 2 – officially named the Dalias, commonly called the lonsdale measures 6.7 inches long (170 mm) ring gauge 43 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Varnished Box containing twenty-five cigars was packaged in a Varnished Boite Nature Box containing ten cigars until 2003.
• Medaille d’Or No. 4 – officially named the Palmitas, commonly called the slim panetela measures 6 inches long (152 mm) ring gauge 32 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Varnished Box containing twenty-five cigars was packaged in a Varnished Boite Nature Box of ten cigars until 2003.

Discontinued La Gloria Cubana Brand Cigars

• Cetros – officially named the Cervantes, commonly known as the lonsdale hand made measures 6.5 inches long (165 mm) ring gauge 42 used a standard “A” band packaged in the Semi Boite Nature Box containing twenty-five cigars discontinued in the early 90s.

• Flechas – official name is unknown, commonly called the perfecto hand made measures 6.1 inches long (156 mm) ring gauge 37 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Dress Box containing twenty-five cigars discontinued in the 1970s.

• Glorias – official name is unknown, commonly called the grand corona hand made measures 6.4 inches long (162 mm) ring gauge 46 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Dress Box of twenty-five cigars discontinued in the 1970s.
• Medaille d’Or No. 1 officially named the Delicados Extra, commonly called the long panetela hand made measures 7.3 inches long (185 mm) ring gauge 36 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Varnished Box of twenty-five cigars until the vitola was discontinued packed in a Varnished Boite Nature Box of ten cigars until 2003 discontinued in 2010.
• Medaille d’Or No. 3 officially named the Panetelas Largas, commonly called the slim panetela hand made measures 6.9 inches long (175 mm) ring gauge 28 used a small version of the standard “A” band packaged in a Varnished 8-9-8 Box of twenty-five cigars until 2010 packaged in a Varnished Boite Nature Box of ten cigars until 2001 Discontinued in 2010.
• Minutos – officially named the Franciscanos, commonly called the petit corona hand made measures 4.6 inches long (116 mm) ring gauge 40 used a standard “A” band packaged in a slide lid box of twenty-five cigars discontinued during the 80s.
• Pinares – official name is unknown, commonly called the corona machine made measures 5.6 inches long (142 mm) ring gauge 42 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Dress Box of twenty-five cigars discontinued in the 70s.
• Sabrosos – officially named the Coronas Grandes, commonly called the long corona hand made measures 6.1 inches long (155 mm) ring gauge 42 used a standard “A” band packaged in a Dress Box containing twenty-five cigars discontinued in 2002.

La Gloria Cubana Special Releases

• 1999 – the Siglo XXI Millennium Humidor

To commemorate the millennium, Habanos SA produced twenty-one special, free standing electric humidors containing 2000 cigars each, comprised of twenty different brands. La Gloria Cubana was selected to be included in this special release. The hand made cigars chosen were:

• 2009 – the Regional Edition Cuba (Edicion Regional Cuba) The Deliciosos named Hermosos No.4 was slected for this release commonly called the corona extra hand made measures 5 inches long (127 mm) x 48 ring gauge used a standard B band with a Regional Edition band for Cuba packaged in Numbered Ceramic Jars containing twenty-five cigars 2000 sets were produced released in 2009.
• 2010 – the Regional Edition Switzerland (Edicion Regional Suiza) The Triunfos named Magnum 50 was selected commonly called the double robusto hand made measures 6.3 inches long (160 mm) x 50 ring gauge used a standard B band with a Regional Edition band for Switzerland packaged in Numbered slide lid boxes containing twenty-five cigars 2400 sets were produced released in 2010.
• 2010 – the La Casa del Habano (LCDH) Exclusive Release (LCDH Exclusivo) The Inmensos named Sublimes was selected commonly called the double robusto hand made measures 6.5 inches long (164 mm) x 54 ring gauge used a standard B band with a La Casa del Habano band packaged in a Varnished Semi Boite Nature Box containing ten cigars 5000 sets were produced released in 2010.
• 2011 – the Regional Edition Belux (Edicion Regional Belux) Belux stands for Belgium & Luxembourg The Belux No.1 named Genios was selected commonly called the robusto extra hand made measures 5.5 inches long (140 mm) x 52 ring gauge used a standard B band with the Regional Edition band for Belux packaged in Numbered Varnished 8-9-8 Box containing ten cigars 3500 sets were produced released in 2011.
